PSYCO105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 27: Social Facilitation, Stereotype Threat, Working Memory
Document Summary
Often social in uence is good - helps us to have predictable social interactions, work as a unit. Sometimes it can lead us to absurd ridiculous or dangerous behaviour. Often people would respond or behave di erently if observed by another person nah if they were alone. Early research indicates - presence of others may enhance performance in task (hand-eye coordination) Sometimes memory for syllabus were worse when other people observed. Early research termed the inhaling e ect as social facilitation. If performance is automatic and well practiced, without thinking - perform better in presence of other. New task , compicate, new learning, thinking di erently - perform worse i -resence of others. If task is something we are really good at it then dominant response is correct behaviour (perform well) If dominant responses are incorrect because they are new and complicated then dominant response will be incorrect - presence interferes.
