Group comparisons: 4 types of graphs. *standard deviation is the average deviation scores from the mean. *range is the spread of scores from lowest to highest score. Graphing relationships: typically use bar graph or line graph, scale used can mislead or exaggerate results, scatter plots. The stronger the correlation, the closer the points will be to that imaginary diagonal line. You can also see that when there is no correlation, the points fall all over the diagram in a completely random pattern. Correlation coef cients & strength of relationships: pearson r: correlation coef cient. Tells strength of relationship (1 = perfect relationship, 0 = no relationship, coef cient between 0-1) Tells direction of relationship (+ or -: important considerations. Restriction of range it is important to sample from the full range of possible values of both variables. If the range of possible values is restricted, the magnitude of the correlation coef cient is reduced.
