Document Summary
The modern approach to psychological disorders considers the interactions of all the relevant dimensions: Thus, we have arrived at a multidimensional integrative approach to the causes of psychological disorders. One dimensional models posit single causes of psychopathology (e. g. , it"s all conditioning, it"s all biology, it"s all social or psychological). Multidimensional models are systemic and often interdisciplinary, and hold that a system of different reciprocal influences (i. e. , biological, learning, emotional, cognitive, social, cultural) interact in complex ways to yield the major etiological and maintaining processes responsible for abnormal behaviour. As such, any biological or environmental influence can become part of this system and cannot be considered in an isolated context. Jody"s fear of blood could have multiple basis including: The genetic influence on much of our development and most of our behaviour, personality, and even iq is polygenic that is, influenced by many genes, each contributing only a tiny effect.
