The process by which people come to understand one another. The study of how we form impressions of other people and make inferences about them. How we integrate our observations into coherent impressions of other persons. How our impressions can subtly create a distorted picture of reality. First impressions are often subtly influenced by different aspects of a person"s appearance. Showed students pictures of unfamiliar faces for 1/10 of a second, a second, or a full second. Their ratings about the faces were the same as people who rated the faces not at a limited time frame. We prejudge people based on facial features. Large, round eyes; high eyebrows; round cheeks; a large forehead; smooth skin; and a rounded chin. Seen as warm, kind, na ve, weak, honest, submissive. Mature - small eyes, small forehead, etc. Same region of the brain that was activated for pictures of babies was also activated for pictures of baby faced adults.
