Hindsight bias - the tendency for people to exaggerate how much they could have predicted the outcome after knowing that it occurred. Kitty genovese - girl who was murdered, 38 people saw and did nothing. Diffusion of responsibility - perhaps the bystanders would have been more likely to help had each thought he or she alone was witnessing the murder. Operational definition - the precise specification of how variables are measured or manipulated. How the social world affects the brain. How universal or general is the research. Hypothesis: an explicit, testable prediction about the conditions under which an event will occur; the relationship between two or more variables. Theory: an organized set of principles used to explain observed phenomena. Simplest possible (viable) explanation of a phenomena. Typically thought of in abstract, general terms. Have to transform them into things that can be manipulated. Specific procedures for manipulating or measuring a conceptual variable. Did your operational definition match the conceptual variable.
