Document Summary

The brain is the collection of neuron cells. Hard to dissociate the mind and central nervous system from the body. Spinal cord is attached to the brainstem. Forebrain= prominent in mammals and birds, responsible for most conscious behaviour. Brainstem= shared by almost all animals, source of behaviour that is a lot simpler, more reflexive and enate. Spinal cord is also a source of behaviour, patterning activity, walking, make repetitive motions. Elementary sensory reflexes, painful stimuli, alternations of the orientations of muscles. Locked- in syndrome= people can respond in these states to simple suggestions. Even though they can not covertly respond, they are actually engaging in conscious behaviour. Behaviour is a sequence of pattern, a time series, speech. Exhaling at particular moments, you produce a signal that changes in respect to time. Nervous system function, neurons are active in time and produce particular sequences, that"s where behaviour comes from. Ex: crossbills" beak vs. roof rats. (textbook example).
