PSYCO282 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Reinforcement
Document Summary
How to apply extinction: de ne problem behaviours and collect data. De ne target behaviour, coolest baseline data: conduct a functional assessment to identify reinforcer for the problem behaviour, eliminate the reinforcer for the problem behaviour. Is it safe to use extinction: consider the schedule of reinforcement for the problem behaviour, reinforce alternative behaviours, promote generalization and maintenance. Non-contingent attention: being there for someone but not reacting to a certain behaviour. Generalization: target behaviour occurs across di erent situations that di er from the training situation. Maintenance: behaviour change persists over time after the b-mod program ends. When not to apply extinction: group settings and imitation, behaviour placed on extinction typically causes an extinction burst that may be imitated by others. It can be di cult to manage extinction bursts emitted by several people at once. In terms of extreme behaviour, some actions may be harmful or dangerous. These should be modi ed with the most rapid procedures possible.
