You wipe out everything, then you have a bigger problem and probably have to use more poison etc. Buddha is reacting against urbanization, deforestation, commercialization. Forest was turning into all this farmland makes him mad. We know that these ideas about thinking about the ecology around us is not something new to human beings, it"s been around for a long time. Goethe is reacting against pre-industrial collection of statements. Living in an area where there are little states w/in. Mechanical means to replace human and animal based labor.
