Shallow open water wetlands: < 2m standing water = wetland, this means that most of the lakes in the boreal are actually wetlands, not lakes, submerged plants or sediment bottom. Marshes: emergents common (reeds, sedges, rushes, water above sediment on a permanent/semi-permanent/temporary basis, large uctuations. Swamp: closed canopy (spruce, tamarack, mixed wood, shrubs > 2m high) Wednesday, november 23, 2016: large water table uctuations, but drier than marsh.
