C. fucntionalists base their claims on emile durkheim. Culture is created by face-to-face encounters (body language & People are like actors in a play, carry out assumed roles. Manage impressions of themselves on the front stage and our real selves on back stage (expectations and how we present ourselves) Making sense of the facts of deviant behavior: Sociologists have demonstrated that deviance isn"t randomly distubuted. Males are more likely to be involved in deviant behavior than females. Sociological literature has tended to ignore the deviant behavior of women. Deviance is dependent on expectations and gender roles. Crime rates are highest during the late teens and early adulthood and decline sharply afterwards. Unclear as to whether disadvantaged people are more likely to become deviant or more likely to be caught. Racialized people receive longer sentences in higher security facilities and are less likely to be granted parole. The study of moral stratification- using the word deviant is a moral judgment.
