If they did something for me, i"ll be more likely to be persuaded by them. If everyone is complying, i"ll more likely comply too: we stick with our own attitudes or beliefs, more likely to persuaded if we think the opportunity is going to vanish. If the source is attractive or if it"s my friend, i"ll be more persuaded. If someone can convince you easily, you"re more likely to persuade. Emotional appeals: fear based- only affected if the person being targeted can imagine being suffering from what they are trying to get at. Only work if they are centrally processed: positive emotion appeals- good mood is a strong drive in this part. Subliminal processing: works well when the person has thought of the thing that they are being persuaded about. Obstructive images: supposed to cause ambiguity and not to make you focus on the subject but on what you"re seeing. Doublespeak: to introduce some sort of ambiguity or confusion.
