STAT 151(September 11,2013) Chapter 4/5 – Summary Measures Measures of Center Outlier – is a data point that falls well above/below the bulk of the data Population mean: µ = (∑ yi/N Sample mean: Median – value of the midpoint of a ranked dataset (low to high; high to low)  If there is an even # of datapoints, take the middle two and the average will be your median  Medians are resistant to outliers  Ex.
