Document Summary
Section 14 (chapter 25) - one-way analysis of variance: analysis of variance (anova) - to find the differences among more than two groups or means, uses measurements of one variable from different groups. F-distribution: used by all types of anova, two numbers for the df: F-table: gives areas to the right of given values of f, numerator df - top of pages, denominator df - sides of pages, critical values of f are > or = 1. Factors may be qualitative or quantitative: multiway factorial anova. Involves more than two factors: randomized-block anova, extension of the paired-sample t-test, more than two samples paired by some relationship. F-statistic (variance between samples) / (variance within samples) Three sources of variation: total sum of squares (sstotal, total variation between and within samples, treatment sum of squares (sst, variation between samples, error/residual sum of squares (sse, variation within samples.
