Document Summary

In this chapter, we will talk about: hypothesis tests about the equality of two or more population means, an analysis of variance (anova) table for a one-way layout. Analysis of variance (anova) analysises several di erent i populations with their own sample size (ni), mean(cid:0) xi(cid:1), and standard deviations ( i). H0 : 1 = 2 = = i. H1 : h1 only means that at least 2 population means are di erent, the true means and standard deviations of the populations are unknown. = all are unknown: i= # of populations=# of groups. Assumptions for anova: samples are simple random samples, population are normal or n > 30, samples are independent, 1 = 2 = 2 = = i = - the most important assumption. Smallest s: if largest s, if largest s. < 2, we may assume 1 = 2 = = i = , we can use anova f-test.
