Hierarchy of citizens: provided the base for people to get positions within the government, politics, legal system, military, and religious office/functions. Ways to climb the hierarchical system (better social position) Rome: where everything starts: empire leads outwards, roman unified italy. Occupied and defeated all the other italian tribes. Empire builders and great warriors: build roads. Facilitate fast moving army to fight battles: built sewage systems, aqueducts. High level infrastructure across the empire: as the roman empire expanded, the greek empire diminished. Admired greek art and brought their designs, architectural orders into their culture and buildings. Stripped the city of corinth and shipped all the art treasures back to. Rome to be copied and extended (many roman copies of greek sculpture) However, they also created their own architecture innovations not seen in greek or corinth culture before. Portraiture: connection to hellenistic style, exhibit verism =super-realism. Done to associate age and experience with authority/social status.
