Aristotle"s definition = the available means of persuasion in a group setting. One-on-one discussion is dialectic while one person addressing many is considered. Suggests that rhetoric is a strategy people use to convince other people of their opinion. Rhetorical strategy is about convincing people of something. Reputation might put rhetoric as something negative, but aristotle and scholars do not think so. Group setting: someone speaking to a large number of people. Focuses on past actions; presenting evidence on things that have happened. E. g. in a courtroom, lawyers are appealing to a judge. Presenting to a group the things you think have happened to convince them.
