It is geing harder to discern what is real and what is made up in the novels now. The struggle around truth seems to be connected to the idea of naming in the novel. He is the taker, but is this consistent with his idenity. Disconnecion between name and character is more problemaic. We get separated from the object in a signiicant way when things get monetary value. It no longer becomes a simple exchange between two human beings and we are alienated from the products of our labour. People could be clearly read in terms of idenity if their name relected who they are. The novel talks about the gap between representaion (name), and reality (the character). A nostalgia for a past that never was. When newboy pushes the man and feels the power he has. Human potenial: like how shadow has a latent potenial or ability that he doesn"t know he has.
