GEOG 205 Lecture Notes - Lecture 38: Jet Fuel, Transform Fault, Base Load Power Plant
Document Summary
Extinctions - the species does not exist anymore. Measuring biodiversity difficult - positively sure that the last of the species is gone, sometimes referred to as a local extinction. Locally extinct - bread or species extinct in one area. Reintroductions - when a species is extinct in one area, it is taken from another area and reintroduced. Melting an ice patch - reintroduce them from a different time. Invasive species from another time - viruses in ice. Original ecosystems are gone- huge population pressures mean landscape changes. Biodiversity a good thing - resilient - diversity allows for species to be resilient, disease does not kill everyone. Drought/desertification - herds moving according to the weather, marginal in change in regards to plant and animal life surviving. Natural influence having an impact on the environment. Desertification - the removal of plants, nothing holding the soil down meaning nothing can grow there.
