States that withdrew from the united states and ended up in war. Formed a unit centered around having their own states but also agreed on slavery. Didn"t join the confederacy in the south but not in the south ( orange ) Legacy definition- poverty since the civil war. Made rich people poor, and the poor poorer. Had the fewest dentist cause they chose not to spend money on this. Richest part became the poorest for a while. Building a second image of the south as the backbeat region, not enjoying america"s success story. Much easier to get guns in the south than la. South has several different distinctive accents that you don"t see anywhere else. Socil/cultural immigration patterns ( self reported) North: they reported themselves as german heritage. Saying they don"t even know where they are from besides america. Little debate- light orange ( towards the left south) Social and cultural coherence pre and post war.
