KNES 323 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Catecholamine, Myoglobin, Thrombophlebitis
Document Summary
Hypemic oxygen deficiency due to reduction in oxygen carrying capacity of blood. Histotoxic inability of cells to accept/use oxygen. (toxins, alcohol). Hypoxic decreased oxygen availability in environment and exchange. (altitude) 5820 m is upper limit of human habitation. Nausea (sympathetic), headache (vasodilation), denial, euphoria (shock response), hot/cold, numb, dizziness (vasovagal response), blurred vision, fatigue, numbness (low blood flow). Hyperventilation, cyanosis (blue), confusion, judgment, no coordination, (low oxygen makes you dopy) Decreased vision at 4000ft (loose acuity, color perception) Early (acute) changes: high respiratory rate and hr. Later adaptations: high rbc production, high number of capillaries, high 2, 3 dpg (helps normalize levels) Symptoms- tingling, spasms, hot/cold sensations, vision impaired, dizziness, fainting (reset). High dpg and oxygen carrying capacity (with exercise). Increased resting hr, decreased sv (low volume), high bp (sympathetic response) Pulmonary edema caused by hydrostatic force and big. Results in fluids entering alveoli, which is bad Due to low air water vapor (dry) and reduced fluid volumes.
