Until we became bipedal, the bones in the upper and lower body were similar. Ever since, our bones have evolved a lot. Most superior portion of the lower extremity: pelvis. 3 bones fused together on each side. Tarsals: 7 bones, similar to carpals in hands. Metatarsals: 5 bones, similar to metacarpals in hands. Phalanges: 14 bones, in toes, proximal, middle, distal. Most proximal and superior part of lower extremity. 3 bones fused together as we grow up to become one. Ischium (butt bone, you sit on this): posterior, inferior. Auricular surface is a good marking to show what side is anterior. Point where all three bones meet and form this socket. Socket for head of femur to form ball and socket joint. Like glenoid fossa and humerus forming ball and socket joint. Like a bowl that houses many organs. 2 bones (pelvic bones) that fuse together on anterior side by the pubic symphysis (joint connecting anterior side of pelvic bones)
