Absorbs remaining water, nutrients, and fat from chyme through chemical digestion before chyme moves into large intestine through the ileocecal valve into the cecum. Entering into large intestine, chyme passes through ileocecal valve. Parts of large intestine: cecum, vermiform appendix, ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid colon, rectum and anus. Teniae coli: smooth band running along ascending colon, transverse colon and descending colon. They are thickened bands of smooth muscle that allow for food to be passed through haustra. Allow for contraction of muscles to allow movement of food.
