KNES 303 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Muscle Contraction, Neuromuscular Junction, Exercise Intensity
Document Summary
Knes 303 lecture 16 fatigue: responses and adaptations to exercise. Progression of fatigue: fatigue develops as one exercises starts to build up regardless of what intensity domain you are exercising in. In near-maximal exercise, fatigue starts developing rather rapidly during the first few minutes of exercise. If there is enough recovery, the subsequent bout can be sustain fully. Domain-specific etiology of fatigue: fatigue may change based on the intensity and duration of exercise, moderate-intensity domain, lower central motor drive. After a very long duration however, there will be some peripheral fatigue as well due to failure of contractile units in the muscle. However, compared to heavy and severe domains of exercise, the contribution of central fatigue is much greater during moderate exercise. If we do moderate exercise for 20-30 minutes, there will be no (or next to none) fatigue accumulation. If sustained to exhaustion, subject will experience: reduction in glycogen intramuscular levels (primary reason behind being limited)
