Crown appealed the not guilty" decision b/c defense had stretched the meaning of self defence and billy had been asleep. She plead guilty (to avoid ordeal) so only a matter of sentence. 6 mo in prison, 2 yr probation allowed to continue education everyday. He also looked like a monster, whereas most will be charming and decieving. Jury nullification= when jury thinks something should be differen than the law and takes the decision into their own hands this is what happened in the original case where they acquitted her. Another case of jury nullification: child was very disabled, father gassed her jury recommended a lesser sentence that they couldn"t recommend (that"s not the role of the jury) The laballe case occurred after this, in some cases now the defense of battered spouse" is allowed, usually with long-term cycles of abuse.
