North india and south india will be separate in this unit. A form of classical music- defined as a certain thing in europe. 1750-1825- classical period of music- about 75 years. Classical only refers to a short period of time. All styles of music throughout the world have in common-they were developed through some system of patronage- someone or an institution of wealth decides to support this. Either patronized by the church, aristocracy or royalty. Paid for by people who were wealthy- church wanted it for church services and royalty and aristocracy wanted musicians in the court to show that they had this music. Delhi sultinate- an empire- covered most of the subcontinent of india. There were kings in this northern indian based empire. Employed musicians in their royal courts and developed this type of music. In the royal courts- 1206-1526- they would have employed musicians in the royal courts.
