Document Summary

Barker (2016) chapters 1 2 (ebp, knowledge, pico), 5 (finding the evidence), pp. Other definitions say it"s the conscientious explicit and judicious use of theory derived, research-based information in making decisions about care delivery to individuals or groups of patient. Evidence based practice is the integration of 4 things: evidence, clinical expertise, patient preference, context of care. Clinical governance: look at clinical risk, quality and practice development, clinical audits, research and development and combine them into your evidence: from there, you inform policy and make your clinical guidelines. Problems with evidence based practice: some argue that patient"s needs should not be sidelined in pursuit of best evidence", some individuals have suggested that such broad general principles are not applicable to certain aspects of care. Sackett model: ask an answerable question, find the appropriate evidence, critically appraise that evidence, apply the evidence to the patient, giving consideration to the individual needs, presentation and context.
