Patient: lost ingredients of life worth living, but chooses to keep living. Glover can"t explain why it would be wrong to kill that person. Utilitarianism: can tell "right" acts, but not "permissible" acts. 1: value placed on individual"s liberty to pursue individual happiness. Mill: purseuade others to not make unwise choices. 2: restriction on liberty is warranted when an action causes (or could cause) harm to others. In our pursuit of happiness , any act that doesn"t harm others or oneself is permissible. Person is prohibited from using their freedom to become unfree. Person agrees to transfer ownership of labour to person on a permanent basis, Person agrees to transfer ownership of labour to person on a permanent basis, allows use of labour until the person dies. Euthanasia is the same as voluntary slavery - in both cases, total control is given. Giving total control in slavery is wrong, but not in euthanasia.
