Impeachment: has historically been a political process, ensures presidents elected via direct public mandate don"t abuse their power, legislators hold political leaders responsible. In some countries impeachment is certified by the courts after impeachment procedures are carried out by legislators. E. g. south korea; courts overturned the impeachment of a south korean president: extending term limits. Associated with presidential systems: new democracies in the 90s instated term limits for presidents, in the past some presidents have sought help from courts to extend their terms. On election night, ballots were counted and it was found that ballots were being read or filled out incorrectly. Election was called in favour of bush campaign-> gore asked for judicial recount -> bush filed a case asking the courts to decide the election -> courts decided in favour for bush. Transitional or restorative justice: aimed at restoring the community. Trc"s: truth and reconciliation commissions e. g. residential schools.
