In western culture, caste is used as varna system, but in reality caste system is another name for jati, which its people are special small group of jatis. The guru can determine the student"s varna so the 1st stereotype is wrong a student considered as brahmana his mom prostitut (answer to why determined by birth is false) Phenomenon: jatis can move from one varna to another in a number of ways. 1)reconstruction of a family tree, traced the origins and they are from cahtra, so are we now showing ancestry in a different varna. 2)ancestor fought in a battle, repelled the invadors, thus they are ksatriya. 3)a change in dietary habits, adapting to other varna food, showing they haven"t eaten meat(e. g. ) 4)refuse to perform some jobs/refuse interactions so make them look like a different class. There are combination of varnas, so it happened within the community, it says it"s not acceptable betrays the fact that it was happening.
