Goddesses came to vedic from outside, it was indigenous. Durga least conventional most independent goddess, defend of demons and world crises, she defends the world dharma, warior goddess. She wants a male child to destroy the gods. Her daughter practices ascetic and becomes dangerous, a wish is granted, gets a son. Demons take over the universe with the power or mahisa. They put all their energies and create a woman, called durga who is stronger than all of their power combined. Gods ask for the help of durga telling about the situation. Mahisa commands all the gods as his servants and enjoys the triple world. He goes there and reveal his identity as the most powerful and tries to be the husband of durga. Durga refuses, and swears to tear him to pieces- he takes it as a joke. The mother of the universe- durga, drinks the blood of sacrifices/wine, and he does his, they fight furiously.
