Document Summary

Moffit"s life-course persistent offenders - accumulation of early deficits. Evidence from boutwell, barnes & beaver (2012) add health study. Goal: examine tendency of lcp offenders to engage in sexual aggression. Hypothesized to engage in antisocial behaviors -> sexual assaults. Most offenders do not find a path of violence/escalate to more serious forms. Only small proportion of all offences among "violent" offenders are violent. Onset of violence may be associated with more frequent offending but not specifically more violent acts. Once adolescent-limited offenders obtain legitimate access, they stop using coercion. Sexual coercion for lcp is result of competitive disadvantage. Sample of males convicted of 2+ sexual offences between april 1994- 10% of sample were defined as lcp, late-onset was about 40% Provides support for the differential impact of the young male syndrome. P: if specialization is observed, it is because there is a preponderance of opportunities to commit the same type of crime.
