May only be supplemented with vitamin/mineral mix unless the forage is lacking. Animals do not need vitamin d if they are on pasture 24/7 in the summer. Environmental conditions can impact use of forages there is not much moisture in pasture in the fall = low quality roughage = low in energy content: animals will eat to meet their energy requirements.
