Document Summary

Ct refers to a wide range of tissues found in the body including: blood, fat (adipose tissue), tendon, cartilage, and bone. All ct contains 3 basic components which differ among types of ct. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the bod. The high tensile strength of collagen makes it an important structural component of tendons and ligaments. Figure 9. 0: macroscopic and microscopic muscle fibre structure. Thick layers or sheaths of collagen surround the whole muscle (epimysium), and the muscle fibre bundles (perimysium) while finer, microscopic strands of collagen surround the muscle fibre (endomysium). Collagen fibres are made up of collagen fibrils that are composed of tropocollagen molecules that are synthesized by fibroblasts. The tropocollagen molecule is made up of various amino acids with glycine located at every 3rd position (figure 9. 1). Figure 9. 1 amino acid sequence and molecular structure of collagen and tropocollagen molecules. 1/3 of tropocollagen is made up of, proline and hydroxyproline.
