Keeping the fish contained by a net. Rely on the natural environment on what they can eat. Not much food produced especially in cold weather (low productivity. Rely solely on the natural food web, so they use polyculture, the mixing of different fish species that have different feeding preferences and depends on each other. Still relying on natural food but supplementing other nutrients such as manure, fertilizer etc to stimulate growth. Can be more productive especially in tropical countries. Need to be better at managing the water. Including putting farm animals above the pond so that the manure can be fed to the fish. This has potential sanitary issues, which is why we focus on intensive aquaculture.
