Described in adult cats being fed veterinary prescription diets7. Low synthetic capacity from cysteine due to low activity of cysteine dioxygenase and cysteine sulphinic acid decarboxylase in liver. Presence of competing pathway of cysteine metabolism which converts it to pyruvate as an energy source. But doubling the normal level of saa prevented crd in kittens. Bile acids solely conjugated with taurine in cats. Generally higher fat content in canned diets, so may increase bile acid needs.
