Stated to stop coming up with solutions to problems (that"s not the job of a sociologist) When we analyze a problem (show up late to research, after the problem has occurred we try to solve it) How we analyze a problem (things are only problematic when we define them as such) Theoretical framework: thesis of the book is the process of what becomes deviant and defined as a social problem is always social. Gun violence bc her father was shot: secondary- reporting on the problem w/o immediate experience, but they are in the position to advocate for it (ex. Toronto star reporter claiming to end gun violence: primary and authenticity makes their claims more effective bc they are direct victims. Hierarchy of claims making: effective: scientist, police, politicians.
