Self-employed workers describe work their own status: independence is important, have more freedom. Contribution is essential in sustaining the business. Setai workers at large scale corporations entertain their clients by taking them to restaurants, bars, or hostess clubs. Buy the right to comment on their appearance. In postwar japan to achieve the new middle class ideal men tried to get into universities and obtain career-track jobs. However, the salaryman way of life was not the only path, there were many alternative paths and work experiences. Some manufacturing but focus on service industry. More diverse employment patterns and promotion opportunities for men and women.
