Enculturation: the processes of an individual acquiring culture, usually while growing up. Culture influences modes of socialization, which in turn translate into variants in terms of personality. Societies have distinct socialization practices so that each society has a unique culture and history. Went into the field to prove a theory. Wanted to be a poet and writer but could not pursue this. Benedict = aims to describe the personality of a whole culture. According to benedict, each culture has its own configuration in terms of personality, or its gestal. Psychological types in the culture of the southwest/patterns of civilization. Kwakuitl: dionysians (to reach beyond, irrational excess, aggression) Puelbo: appolonian (maintain control over conscious, value order, sobriety) To have their model work, some things have to be left aside.
