Niche: ecological role that an organism lls in an ecosystem. The job that your species places within the ecosystem. The human niche is not an individual thing. Its what the species represents to the ecosystem. What is the role of apple trees: produce food, oxygen, habitat for birds and insects, shade and protection, pollen (in context of food source) Ecological niche for lion: population control for herbivores, when it dies, it decomposes and provides a top soil. Domestic cat: controls mice and rat population, clean up owners remains if owner dies, provides company. Tuesday, september 26, 2017: habitat for many interesting species. Species restricted to one tiny area vs species found everywhere in the world. The species that can be found everywhere is very adaptable and their niche is able to evolve, they can withstand many di erent variables (fundamental niche)
