Encompasses the use of geneic theory and techniques to reduce the risk of exincion in threatened species. Is an interdisciplinary science that aims to apply geneic methods i the conservaion and restoraion of biodiversity. Encompasses geneic management of small populaions, resoluion of taxonomic uncertainies and management units, and the sue of molecular geneic analysis in forensics and to understanding species biology. Further knowledge on the consequences of inbreed and outbreeding depression in wild populaions as well as the capacity of small populaions to adapt to local environmental condiions is also urgently needed. How much geneic variaion is available in endangered and threatened species. What is the unit or group to be conserved. Populaion geneics and populaion dynamics problems faced by a populaion at risk of exincion because its numbers are small and those numbers are capped. Focuses on applicaion on geneic methods towards resolving problems in conservaion. 80% of endangered species have low geneic diversity.
