A disruption in the continuity or integrity of the bone. Greenstick (incomplete): disruption of the integrity of the bone on one side, while the other is still intact. Simple (closed): (cid:271)o(cid:374)e stays relatively i(cid:374) the sa(cid:373)e area, does(cid:374)"t pier(cid:272)e through the ski(cid:374) Oblique: oblique to the long axis of the body. Comminuted: bone is broken into 3+ fragments (very difficult to repair) Spiral: spirals along the long surface of the bone, happens due to excessive pressure/weight load put onto the bone. Compound (open): deviation in the normal positon of the bone, bone may pierce through the skin. Ligament sprains (ligaments attach bone to bone): stretching or tearing of a ligament or ligaments at a joint. Bursitis: inflammation of the fluid filled bursae that lie around joints, between muscle attachments, and between tendons and bone to reduce friction and provide protection. Can be caused by trauma/injury, overuse, inflammatory arthritic disease, or infection.
