Document Summary
Vascular system is a serieso f tubes connected to a pump. Network of small vessels, capillary beds which transfer of materials between blood and body cells. Fusion of two muscular pumps, the left and right side of the heart, each with an upper chamber (auricle) and a lowr chamber (ventricle) The atria have thin walls compared to the ventricle walls. The wall of the left ventricle is much thicker then the right ventricle. Bloods moves from major veins into the atria. Contraction of the atrial muscle forces the blood into ventricle. Contraction of the ventricular muscle forces blood into the major arteries that lead away from the heart. The period when cardiac muscles are relaxing to allow for fillign of the atria and ventricle is called diastole. Two types of flap valves in the heart prevent backflow of blood during contraction. Cells of the sinoatrial node spontaneously initiate aps that spread over the atria.
