Document Summary

Being that the information is stored in order to improve and personalize a service, I see no reason why the information would be kept for longer than relevant. Creating a large store of information that is no longer relevant to an active user would be potentially costly and impractical for a company. Despite this, google will apparently retain your information indefinitely (netburn 2012), which doesn"t entirely make sense to me. Much of the information that would be useful to a company won"t be very valuable to the individual, i believe there is no harm in a company storing information that is not considered sensitive or confidential. When speaking of an online company such as google, the information they would store is patterns of interests and search habits. I think that the secure storing of recently visited sites/online habits is harmless and can benefit the user experience.
