PERSEUS… and Clash of the Titans

Argos was important to the worship of Hera

According to myth, Hera and Poseidon competed for affection from people of Argos

King of Argos, Phoroneus, selects Hera to be the worshipped

Poseidon dries up the river in their region out of anger

Explains the etiological idea that they have dry river beds

Temple of Apollo, Acrisius (Proetus, Tiryns)
King Acrisius, King of Argos,

He goes to delphi and asks a question about the future and children

King Acrisius has one child, a daughter, which is a disaster

She will have a son and you will be killed by your daughters son
Oracle gives him bad news, says, you will have an heir through your daughter

His daughter is Danae

He tries to find means in which he can prevent the fate that’s laid out in front of him

He imprisons her in a tower

Dictys finds them washed up on the side of the sea, and welcomes them very friendly

Polydectes is the mean brother and he desires Danae for himself
He wants Danae to be his bride
The difficulty is the son
Dictys is the brother of Polydectes

Perseus is in the way of Danae and Polydectes

Which leads him to confront Medusa
Polydectes contrives a plan to remove Perseus to get to his mother
