Unit introduction: cybercrime can be very damaging, crime that takes place through the use of a computer or a network is called cybercrime. The most recognized forms of cybercrime are identity theft and the theft of information, but online harassment, also known as cyber bullying, is considered to be cybercrime as well. All of them can be extremely damaging to their victims: computer viruses come in many forms, viruses are programs that attempt to perform harmful actions by infecting parts of their host"s memory. A hacker is someone that uses the vulnerabilities in computer programs to gain access to places that they shouldn"t have access. Some hackers only work to help find and fix these vulnerabilities: the internet is full of potential annoyances, the internet can be a scary place, and some clever criminals have found ways of capitalizing on this fact. It is a sad truth that some content online is designed with an ulterior motive.
