Document Summary

A group of non-profit companies manages the internet. Data sent over the internet is broken down into packets. These packets are then sent to recipients based on the carrying of the information. We navigate the web using an ip address. Each address is a unique identifier and points to a specific website. Most high-speed communications between isps are achieved using t-lines. T lines are mostly high- speed fibre-optic communication lines. The connection between isps were once known as network access points (naps). Private sector companies use internet exchange points (ixps). Majority of the internet follows the client/server model of network communication. Transmission control protocol (tcp) and internet protocol (ip). Tcp prepares data for transmission and provides for error checking and resending lost data. Ip is responsible for sending the information from one computer to another. Domain name takes the place of an ip address as just the name making ti easier for people to remember.
