ECON 3300 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Randomized Controlled Trial, Blind Experiment
Document Summary
Question 3: explain what is meant by a double- blind randomized controlled trial. Discuss each term in the name. This is why they take medication/pills that look identical to each other. This way each participant is being used as its own control group. Patients are divided into 2 groups: half of them gets x and half of them gets y. A long enough amount of time is allowed to pass to get rid of any residual elements of drugs. Later, the process is switched. Those who were on the trial group (medication y) are not in the control group, getting x. After this procedure is repeated, outcomes are compared. Patient a when in control group is compared with patient a when in trial group.
