EDRD 3500 Lecture Notes - Lecture 44: Budal, Profit Margin, Nonverbal Communication
Document Summary
For each of the different types of impacts we looked at (economic, environmental, social /cultural), people generally try to determine the impact of the recreation or tourism service through direct measurement. For example, economists may observe participation or attendance in a program or service, or consider the profit margin of the enterprise. Environmental impacts may be measured by the decline in the number of natural species of plant life existing in an area, or the direct measurement of water quality in a lake. Other aspects of impact, particularly those that are social and cultural in nature, are more difficult to measure directly. Therefore, alternative approaches to gathering information are required. An example of the three approaches used for the collection of impact data analysis has been provided in the reading by farooquee, budal, & maikhuri (2008). The four main approaches are listed below and are briefly described.
