The sailors are represented as beastly, or "black-like" - they also cannot read. Tarzan is created by what might be referred to as "the missing link" Tarzan comes from superior genetic stock - superior aristocratic white stock. Even though black and white men start out equally, white men develop and evolve further then them and become the superior race. Despite not having any civilized people around him (black cannibals and these missing link people), he"s still able to teach himself how to read. Tarzan has the genetic stock that allows him to gain civilization as if it was hereditary. Nurtureis more aligned with anti-racism because it suggests that no matter who an individual is, given the right tools, they can become anyone and evolve to a further point. Naturesuggests that hierarchy is not a social construct but an actual natural order.
