Document Summary

Unit 3: planning processes, planning theories and tourism motivation. System of several parts working in combination, define what we know of tourism as a whole. Intrinsic motivation: often reflected in a person(cid:495)s state of mind and reflect a person(cid:495)s innate needs and desires that lead to goal-oriented behaviours; include sensation seeking: ex. gambling, adventure tourism, illicit drugs. Extrinsic motivations: social needs and social pressures. Affiliation: need can drive to sign up for a vacation to meet someone, but if you do not meet people to your liking then satisfaction does not occur and equilibrium is not achieved. Combination of intrinsic and extrinsic motivations that makes it possible for people to engage in (cid:494)ludic behaviour(cid:495) or play: desire to escape everyday routines, ego-enhancement reasons reflect in self-reward and self-indulgence (ex. college students on spring break) Volunteer tourism helps people experience authenticity of a cultural practice.
